Whether it is international express delivery, international moving, or international trade, logistics delay is what we hope to happen most. Why does delay occur in international transportation? Let's learn about it today.
1. The goods themselves are sensitive. Some shippers are not professional logistics personnel, so they do not understand the rules of international logistics transportation, which makes it easy for them to consign some prohibited items or sensitive goods.
(1) Countries around the world have their own prohibited goods. Everyone is familiar with drugs, guns and ammunition, weapons, etc., which are prohibited from entering countries around the world. Animals, plants, meat, and books are prohibited from entering almost every country. For example, the United States prohibits the entry of Chinese herbal medicines; the United Kingdom prohibits the entry of milk and meat products. After the prohibited goods arrive at the customs of the destination country, they will be seized by the customs or directly returned.
(2) The goods are famous brands or infringing products: After these products enter the country, the customs will require a brand authorization letter. If not, customs clearance will be delayed, customs will detain the goods, or even directly order them to be returned.
(3) The goods are sensitive goods such as powder, liquid, and electric goods: The probability of sensitive goods being inspected by customs is higher than that of general goods, and the customs clearance time is longer than that of general goods. These products are generally delayed during transportation.
2. Operational errors. With the development of international transportation, there are more and more international freight forwarding companies, and the quality is also uneven. When we hand over the goods to the freight forwarding company, the freight forwarding company will have logistics operators to handle and ship the goods. If the logistics operator is not professional enough or makes operational errors, this will affect the transportation:
(1) The cargo information is not filled in in a standardized and complete manner: If the product quantity is incorrect or the declared value does not match the actual value of the goods, it will attract the attention of the customs and cause logistics delays;
(2) Logistics transportation method: In order to save freight and earn the freight difference, freight forwarding companies choose logistics transportation channels with low prices and longer transportation times.
3. Customs inspection. At the port of departure or the country of destination, the customs will select a certain proportion of containers for inspection according to its own policies, which will also cause logistics delays to a certain extent. Regarding the inspection standards, this is random, known as "random customs inspection", and usually depends on several factors, such as a country's import and export policies, risk management, etc. Once a customs inspection occurs, not only will the transportation be delayed, but also related fees must be paid.
4. Natural disasters. Ship delays often occur due to bad weather conditions. For example, every summer, there are typhoons and hurricanes, which have an impact on ship transportation: when the ship has to skip the port of call due to bad weather; when the ship is in the port but cannot leave due to bad weather.
5. Port congestion. The port of destination or the port of departure is congested, that is, the port is blocked. For example, the peak period of transportation has arrived since the second half of the year, especially various holidays, which will be like a traffic jam. There are too many ships and they cannot be released for a while. In addition, some countries often have strikes, which can also cause port congestion.
